PLASTIC MADONNA

Why Plastic Madonna

The statue wants to grab people's attention because...
There's a bigger problem than global warming.

The greatest challenge humanity faces is people believing that what they can do to change the world for the better is too small to make any difference. The Plastic Madonna Project proofs that your small step is a giant leap for mankind. We now use the Plastic Soup as an example, because it is the most convincing one.

  • Plastic litter is caused by humans

100% of litter is caused by people who believe their tiny littered piece won't make any difference

  • Plastic Soup it's main contributor is plastic litter

80% of the plastic soup consists out of landbased plastic litter

  • Plastic Soup is a dish.

No-one knows how much plastic is entering our food chain. Plastic litter is bad for our health, you can bet on that.

  • Power of one habit

If 25% of the people pick up one piece of litter every day, the growth of the Plastic Soup, 8 billion kilos every year, will come to a halt.

If we succeed in our goal, 25% of the population picks up one piece of plastic litter every day, and as a consequence the litter problem is vanished, no one will ever believe their action is too small te make a difference. This will have a major positive impact on all our environmental problems.

Plastic Madonna is a project to change humanity's believe-system.
Step 1 (finished)

Prove that if people collectively doing almost nothing, e.g. pick up a stone, together we move a mountain.

Step 2 (in progress)

In the same way as step 1 -a lot of people doing almost nothing- we want to collect the funds to print the 12 meter long statue ‘Plastic Madonna.

Step 3 (starting)

Constructing the 12 meter meter large statue. Using the recycled plastic of 100.000 littered plastic bottles, printed by a robot-arm 3D-printer.

Step 4 (Summer 2017)

Exhibiting the statue on the beach of Scheveningen. After that she want’s to visit every city. We provide lectures and talks.

Peter is an Artist and a bit of a philosopher. His philosophy is; if mankind understands that there’s no action too small to make a difference, this would make all the difference in the world.

Deep down all people are alike. It’s their habbits that make them different. Combining my expert-knowledge with my dedication to create the Plastic Madonna, I hope to make a difference in this world.

Willemijn Heideman
Project Coordinator
I have worked as an environmental engineer in industry for many years. There I became convinced that environmental change is not obstructed because of technical or financial obstacles. These can always be overcome, IF we all change our way of thinking and our behaviour as citizens and consumers. The philosophy of the Plastic Madonna underlines this so well! I am happy to contribute as a projectcoordinator.
